Peak Games Arrives at $5B User Spending: Toon Blast and Match Factory! Leading the Uptrend

Peak Games has reached a significant milestone in user spending, amassing a total of $5B. The publisher specializes in puzzle games and is renowned for its major hits such as Toon Blast and Toy Blast, which account for 60% and 37% of the company’s total inflow, respectively.

Analyzing the graph, we observe that both games experienced a gradual decline in user spending numbers, with no major new projects being launched. In 2021, Peak Games released Star Blast, similar to the publisher's leading titles. However, the game failed to achieve sufficient success and was eventually discontinued.

In October 2023, the trend for Peak Games’ top title, Toon Blast, shifted dramatically as its numbers began to surge. Within five months, the game’s monthly net iAP revenue doubled from $13M to $26M, maintaining this peak without any signs of decline.

This transformation is quite unique and intriguing, though the reasons remain unclear to outsiders. Notably, even the updates’ descriptions of the game have remained consistent throughout its history not shedding any light on the transformation of the title.

Around the same time, in September 2023, Peak Games released a new title, Match Factory!, which skyrocketed in November, swiftly becoming a leader in the Match 3D market.

The game is now generating $15M in monthly net iAP revenue, making it the second game in Peak Games’ portfolio by monthly revenue number. It’s important to note that this figure excludes ad revenue, which could significantly boost the game’s total income, since Match Factory! surpassed Toon Blast in monthly downloads by almost 3.5 times, reaching 2.5M installs in June 2024.

The secret to *Match Factory*’s success is not immediately obvious. We can only speculate that Peak Games applied its expertise in metagame and monetization strategies from the Match-2 genre, where the team has considerable experience. Given that Match-3D is a relatively young genre, which previously relied solely on in-app ads for monetization, this approach seems to have paid off.

Conclusion

The rapid growth of Toon Blast demonstrates that even older projects can experience major turning points, highlighting the importance of monitoring market leaders. Keep in mind that updates’ descriptions might conceal the true nature of changes to keep it away from the competitors’ eyes.

Considering the success of Match Factory!, it’s evident that the Match-3D genre, still in its infancy, offers ample opportunities for new entrants, especially those who can anticipate the genre’s evolution by learning from more established puzzle genres such as Match-3, Merge, and Casual Casino.
