Roblox Reaches $7B in User Spending

Roblox Corporation, operating as a single-game studio focused on its flagship title Roblox, has reached a milestone with user spending crossing the $7B mark for the lifetime. The game has seen a consistent increase in downloads, now tallying up to 995M installs, and has experienced a year-over-year growth of 13% in this metric.

However, Roblox Corporation has faced a revenue downturn since 2021, with a 13% YoY decrease in 2022. In 2023, the decline in revenue slowed, with a modest 2% drop reported in the first eight months of the year.

Please, note that AppMagic only tracks iAP-based revenue. No such sources as licensing agreements, ad revenue, royalties, etc. are included in the evaluation. Total revenue of Roblox, according to the company’s annual report, in 2022 was equal to $2.2B with 16% YoY growth.

Looking at the Roblox stock price dynamics, we can notice a large downturn in stock prices since December 2021 that according to the sources was partially attributed to November investor update, indicating a monthly revenue and downloads decline and a slowdown in annual growth.

Since that update, the stock price has seen fluctuations in response to various market events. Notably, there was a 13% increase in stock price since early September, which might be linked to the announcement of major product updates at the Roblox Developers Conference in September 2023, including the addition of 28 new features to the Creator Roadmap.

The introduction of Sponsored Items and the updated ad audiences feature, which allows creators to advertise their 3D user-generated content (UGC) items, also likely contributed to positive investor sentiment.

This November Roblox also announced a surge in revenue due to the growing interest to the in-game experiences "Adopt Me!" and "Murder Mystery 2" during kids summer break which helped the stock price continue its growth.

In terms of Roblox’s revenue regional split, the top three countries were English speaking ones: US with the largest market share of 57%, followed by the UK with 7% and Canada with 4%.

Also, Roblox faced a major shift in its demographics, succeeding to expand its age group, targeting 17-years-old and above. They accounted for 40% in the demographics portfolio as of 2021 and their percentage continued to grow in 2022, showcasing Roblox's expanding appeal to an older audience and its potential for further growth.
